Trusting Life’s Unfolding
Like all posts in the Inner Journeys series, this one is inspired by an Inner Voice session—a practice of tapping into intuition to uncover deeper wisdom.
What is the mind’s role in the unfolding of our lives? Does it actually play a part? Or does it only think it does? These were the questions I explored with a client during an Inner Voice session this past week. Her mind was chewing on the frustration of the when’s and the if’s. Not having answers, but deeply desiring them.
When will it happen? Will it ever happen?
The truth is no matter how much we think we can control the timeline of our lives, it’s all happening in its own right timing. Always. 100% of the time. As hard to trust as that is, it’s our only assurance, our only explanation for why what isn’t happening isn’t and why what is is.
Is your mind already piping up as you read that? Is it saying things like: “Well, wait a second, that’s not true! Without action, there’s no reaction. Without me doing something, nothing is ever going to happen.”
I want you to ask yourself, and I do mean your Self: Is that true? Are those thoughts true? Has there ever been a time where something did happen without you making it happen? I’m not talking about the stuff that doesn’t matter. I’m talking about the stuff that does, the stuff that starts with your deepest heart’s desires. When it comes to those things, what role does your mind actually play?
As my client softened into the idea that perhaps some things happen without the mind’s involvement in making them happen, she started to remember all of the moments in her life where what she hoped would unfold did in just that way. Just like those desires, this [insert whatever desire your mind wants to make happen] will too.
It will unfold in time. In its time.
Fascinated and curious by the direction the session was going, I asked my client’s Inner Voice this: What is the actual role of the mind as things unfold? Does it have a role?
This is how her Inner Voice answered:
The mind’s role is to be here and to be calm. To be steady and present. To help to focus on what’s in front of you each step of the way. And to look for more evidence of joy, love, expansion, synchronicities, and possibilities.
Now I ask you: what does your Inner Voice say to that very same question? What is the role of your mind in your own life’s unfolding? Ask your Inner Voice and then, if you’re comfortable and willing, share what you received in the comments on this post at @innerjourneyswithamber on Instagram.
